Summary
The new equipment includes a street sweeper, a dump truck, and a Ford F-550 cab and chassis.
The council approved Resolution 07-2026 to purchase three pieces of equipment from Sourcewell, a governmental entity that offers savings to municipalities. The equipment includes a Global M4 Street Sweeper for $382,072, a Kenworth single axle dump truck for $213,272, and a Ford F-550 cab and chassis for $87,480. DPW Director Kip Headdy clarified that this equipment replaces outdated items, not adding to the fleet. The council also approved Resolution 08-2026 to amend a master lease agreement with Peoples State Bank to finance the equipment, with all three council members voting yes on both resolutions.
The council approved Resolution 09-2026, authorizing a loan agreement with Peoples State Bank for up to $300,000. This loan will fund repairs to the aerial ladder truck, a 2007 model. Town Attorney Darla Brown explained that repairing the ladder is more economical than purchasing a new truck, which costs around $3,000,000. The truck will be out of service for six months during repairs, and all three council members voted yes.
The council tabled bids for street resurfacing on South Deer Run, East Benjamin Street, South Lantern Lane, East Appomattox Court, and North Daisy Drive. The lowest bid received was $139,775.03 from Milestone Contractors. The bids were tabled to allow for a legal review, with all three council members voting yes to table.
A resident expressed concern about speed issues on McNeely, Abigail Drive, and Sale Street, asking for radar speed monitors to be placed on these streets. Town Marshal Jimmie Durnil later explained that the town's radar speed monitor was unrepairable and would cost $5,000 to replace. Council member Dan Swafford suggested considering permanent electronic "Slow Down" signs during future budget discussions.
Town Marshal Jimmie Durnil announced Sergeant Richard Hall as the 2026 Police Officer of the Year. Sergeant Hall began his law enforcement career with the Ellettsville Police Department as a reserve officer in 2011.
